The most useful dates for annual leave in Poland in 2027 are not necessarily a week in July or the final days of December. Sometimes one well-chosen Friday is enough: take 28 May and enjoy a break from 27 to 30 May, or book 12 November to stay off work from 11 to 14 November. January's holidays can even create a ten-day break using four days of leave.

Here you will find all 14 public holidays, checked combinations and ready-made plans using 10, 20 or 26 days of annual leave. Every interval includes both its first and last day: weekends at either end count towards the uninterrupted break too. These dates have been checked against the calendar and current rules rather than selected by guesswork.

The main calculation assumes an employee working Monday to Friday, with Saturdays and Sundays off and an ordinary working day. Shift work, weekend duties or a different contract can change the result. Even the neatest combination becomes leave only once agreed: this calendar helps prepare a request, but does not replace the employer's decision.

Poland’s public holiday calendar for 2027

The Public Holidays Act lists 14 holiday dates. In 2027, eight fall between Monday and Friday, two on Saturdays and four on Sundays. The Act lists Sundays separately as well; 14 is therefore not the number of all days off during the year.

Do not overlook Christmas Eve: 24 December is a statutory public holiday, rather than simply a shortened working day under the general rule. The change has applied since 2025, as the National Labour Inspectorate, Państwowa Inspekcja Pracy, also explains. Work remains possible in legally permitted cases: a holiday does not stop transport, hospitals and other essential services.

Easter Sunday falls on 28 March, followed by Easter Monday on 29 March. Pentecost is on 16 May and Corpus Christi on 27 May. Do not confuse a religious or commemorative occasion with an additional statutory day off: Good Friday on 26 March, Flag Day on 2 May and Saint Nicholas' Day on 6 December do not themselves create an extra nationwide public holiday.

A trip in early November can include an introduction to All Saints' Day traditions, while another November long weekend pairs well with our guide to Polish Independence Day. This explains more than a closed office: it helps make sense of family journeys, commemorations, markets and changes to city traffic.

Saturday holidays: two days you cannot simply assign yourself

In 2027, 1 May and 25 December fall on Saturdays. Under Article 130 § 2 of the Labour Code, Kodeks pracy, a holiday within the reference period falling on any day other than Sunday reduces the working-time requirement by 8 hours. With a standard five-day week and Saturdays off, the employer must arrange working time correctly and provide another day off. It is not deducted from your paid annual leave.

The law does not automatically make the nearest Friday a day off for the entire country. The date depends on the work schedule and applicable reference period, or okres rozliczeniowy. The Labour Inspectorate explains the mechanism, rather than setting a universal date for every workplace. With a monthly reference period, you cannot simply move May's compensatory day into April to make the calendar more attractive.

Ask HR which reference period applies, when the day for the Saturday holiday has been assigned and whether it appears in your schedule. Until you have an answer, use the baseline tables below. They assume no additional employer-arranged days. A holiday falling on Sunday does not itself trigger this reduction; compensation for actually working on a Sunday or holiday is a separate issue.

Conditional examples only: the employer must assign the stated day within a permissible reference period
Employer arrangement required Break dates Leave dates Leave / days off
04.05.2027 01.05.2027–04.05.2027 — 0 / 4
04.05.2027 01.05.2027–09.05.2027 05.05–07.05.2027 3 / 9
23.12.2027 23.12.2027–26.12.2027 — 0 / 4

For example, a confirmed day off on 4 May for the Saturday holiday creates a four-day break on 1–4 May without annual leave. Add leave on 5–7 May and the break runs 1–9 May: nine days off using three days of leave, rather than four in the baseline example. These are alternative uses of the same assigned day, not two compensatory days for one holiday. Similarly, an assigned day off on 23 December can produce a break on 23–26 December without annual leave — but only if that is the confirmed schedule.

Reading the calculations: annual leave, weekends and holidays are different

In the tables, “leave used” means working days you need to book as paid annual leave. “Days off” means every consecutive calendar day in the break, including holidays and regular days off. The “days off / leave day” ratio helps compare short options: four days off using one leave day gives 4.00. Ratios are rounded to two decimal places. A dash is used when no leave is required: division by zero would be meaningless.

Both ends of the interval are included. Nine days from a Saturday through the following Sunday do not mean nine days deducted from annual leave. Equally, weekends that would already have been free do not become a new entitlement. This measure describes a particular break's shape, not your whole year or the quality of a trip.

The most useful dates for annual leave in Poland in 2027

First decide what you need: a short trip, proper recovery or a family visit on particular dates. None of the baseline combinations below assumes an unconfirmed compensatory day. You can therefore compare them before the company schedule is announced, subject to a standard five-day week and subsequent agreement on leave.

One leave day: a short trip without a large deduction

28 May and 12 November offer especially straightforward patterns: a Thursday holiday, Friday leave, then Saturday and Sunday. Good Friday on 26 March produces a similar result before Easter, but as a day of your own annual leave, not a statutory Polish holiday.

One leave day: three convenient examples
Break dates Leave dates Leave used Days off Days off / leave day
26.03.2027–29.03.2027 26.03.2027 1 4 4.00

11.11.2027–14.11.2027 12.11.2027 1 4 4.00

Checking all 253 non-holiday weekdays in 2027 showed that, without additional employer-arranged days, one leave day produces at most four consecutive days off in this model. The Fridays listed are not the only options: 30 April, 29 October and 23 December, for example, achieve the same result. This is a maximum for one leave day under the stated schedule, not proof that any particular annual plan is globally optimal.

Two–four days: a week away from the working routine

If an unhurried change of scene matters most, using slightly more leave can be more appealing than rushing between an airport and a working Monday. January stands out because of New Year and Epiphany, while spring and autumn holidays let you connect the working part of a week with weekends.

Five days or more: a substantial break rather than only bridges

Longer leave usually has a lower ratio, but gives you time to switch off properly. A fortnight's summer rest is not poor value simply because a four-day holiday weekend makes a more eye-catching headline.

January: turn four leave days into ten calendar days off

1 January is a Friday and 6 January a Wednesday. Taking 4–5 January joins New Year, the weekend of 2–3 January and Epiphany: the break lasts 1–6 January, six days using two leave days. If the latter half of the week suits you better, leave on 7–8 January gives five days from 6 to 10 January — also using two.

Combine both options by booking 4–5 and 7–8 January: four leave days create ten calendar days from 1 to 10 January. This is one shared break, so you cannot add six and five to promise eleven days: 6 January appears in both shorter arrangements. The annual plans below use either the complete January combination or only its first part.

Easter and May: distinguish a public holiday from your annual leave

After Easter, leave on 30 March–2 April is useful: four working days create a nine-day break on 27 March–4 April. To leave earlier, book 22–26 March: five leave days produce ten calendar days from 20 to 29 March. Your route and family plans determine which is better; a longer interval does not always have a better ratio.

The May holidays already give 1–3 May, Saturday to Monday, without leave. Booking 4–7 May extends the break to 9 May: nine days using four. However, 30 April remains a working Friday in the baseline schedule. To depart then, book leave or rely on a genuinely assigned day off, rather than an assumption about compensation.

For Corpus Christi, the simplest bridge is 28 May: four days from 27 to 30 May using one leave day. For a longer spring break, take 24–26 and 28 May: four leave days produce nine calendar days from 22 to 30 May. The Thursday holiday in the middle is not deducted from your leave allowance.

Autumn: three days without leave, or sixteen with a longer break

1 November falls on a Monday, so the weekend of 30–31 October already joins the holiday to create a three-day break on 30 October–1 November. Leave on 2–5 November expands it to nine days, through 7 November inclusive. Separately, taking 12 November gives a four-day break on 11–14 November.

For a longer trip, connect these parts with leave on 2–5, 8–10 and 12 November. The cost is eight days; the uninterrupted break runs 30 October–14 November, sixteen days. No working “island” remains between the holidays. This is what allows the economy plan below to include a substantial period of rest.

A November break need not involve a long journey. You might divide the time between visiting relatives, a few days in another Polish city and a quiet week at home. Seeing the entire interval in advance matters more than discovering at the last minute that work meetings occupy the middle of an otherwise promising holiday.

Christmas and the move into 2028: do not invent extra days off

24–26 December falls on Friday, Saturday and Sunday: three days without leave in our model. Four leave days on 20–23 December allow a nine-day break from 18 to 26 December. To extend the holiday afterwards, leave on 27–31 December gives ten days from 24 December to 2 January 2028.

The latter option uses five days of your 2027 leave. Under the general rule, 31 December is an ordinary working day. New Year on 1 January 2028 falls on a Saturday; the associated working-time reduction belongs to the relevant reference period and does not let you declare 31 December or 3 January free in advance. No such assumed compensatory day is included here.

The longest Christmas option joins leave on 20–23 and 27–31 December: nine leave days create sixteen days off from 18 December to 2 January 2028. The break spans two calendar years, but all leave dates fall in 2027. The employer assigns the day for 25 December separately; it may improve your arrangement, but cannot simply be added to every chosen combination.

Ready-made plans using 10, 20 or 26 leave days

These are examples for allocating a confirmed leave budget, not a promise that every worker has that entitlement. Start with the rows for your plan, then check the total. Intervals within each plan do not overlap, and no leave date is used twice. The different plans are alternatives: they must not be added together.

Economy: 10 days

One day before Easter, one after Corpus Christi and eight in November create three breaks totalling 24 calendar days. The longest is the sixteen-day autumn break. Your budget is not spent exclusively on short weekends, while summer leave remains a separate decision if you have an unused balance.

Standard: 20 days

Four days in January, one in May, ten in summer, one in November and four before Christmas. That is 20 leave days and five non-overlapping breaks totalling 43 calendar days. The summer break on 3–18 July lasts sixteen days; the other intervals spread rest through the year.

Extended: 26 days

Two days in January, four after Easter, four after the early-May holidays, one after Corpus Christi, ten in summer, one in November and four before Christmas. That is 26 leave days and seven separate breaks totalling 57 calendar days. This offers more seasonal variety, but also requires agreement on more separate absences.

26 18.12.2027–26.12.2027 20.12–23.12.2027 4 / 9

The totals of 24, 43 and 57 are calendar days within the listed breaks, including their ordinary weekends. They are neither all your free days for the year nor new days created by holidays. The plans omit additional days for Saturday holidays: once the schedule is confirmed, those may change the actual leave needed. The summer dates are a clear example, not the only useful week to choose.

Who gets 20 or 26 days, and why 14 consecutive days matter

Under Article 154 of the Labour Code, the basic full-year, full-time entitlement is 20 days with less than 10 years of qualifying service, or 26 days with at least 10 years. This is not simply time with your current company: legally recognised earlier periods and education count too. Following changes in 2026, some documented periods of zlecenie work and self-employment may also affect qualifying service; PIP explains the new rules. Ask HR to calculate your confirmed balance.

First employment, joining or leaving during the year and part-time work require separate calculations. Part-time entitlement is proportional, while taking leave depends on the work schedule and hours. You cannot simply deduct identical “days” for a short office shift and a long shift under another system.

Where leave is split at the employee's request, Article 162 provides for at least one period of rest lasting no less than 14 consecutive calendar days. This does not mean deducting 14 annual leave days: weekends and holidays may form part of the same uninterrupted interval. PIP explicitly explains the inclusion of adjacent days off. Each of our three plans contains a sixteen-day break, so substantial rest is not sacrificed to an attractive ratio.

Zlecenie, B2B, shifts or working Saturdays: when the figures differ

  • Umowa o pracę: use employment law, your schedule, the reference period and agreed leave as the basis.
  • Umowa zlecenie: Labour Code paid annual leave does not arise automatically; relevant contractual terms determine breaks and payment.
  • B2B / JDG: a business owner plans absence around client contracts, obligations and revenue. A client's company calendar does not automatically create paid leave days.
  • Shifts and work on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays: start with the actual roster. A calendar Saturday may be a workday and Tuesday a day off.
  • Part-time work and a different reference period: recalculate the allowance and hours rather than mechanically copying our leave-day totals.

Even if past zlecenie work increases qualifying service for someone now employed under an employment contract, it does not turn every current zlecenie contract into an umowa o pracę. These are separate questions: calculating service and establishing leave rights within a particular legal relationship.

Agreeing the plan without losing leave to avoidable mistakes

  1. Check your actual remaining allowance and already approved dates. Do not plan all 26 if fewer have been confirmed.
  2. Find out the assigned dates for Saturday holidays and the boundaries of the reference period.
  3. Choose one long break, then add suitable short ones. Check school holidays separately: they are not parents' annual leave.
  4. Submit actual working dates, rather than a vague request for “the May holidays”. Match the approval against your request.
  5. Book non-refundable travel after agreement, allowing time for the journey and the return to work.

The employer takes account of employees' wishes and normal business operations; colleagues requesting the same dates may mean choosing an alternative. Compare several rows so you can offer clear options rather than a single ultimatum. A successful holiday is about more than arithmetic: it should be genuinely free time without urgent work commitments.

Frequently asked questions

How many statutory holiday dates does Poland have in 2027?

14: eight fall between Monday and Friday, two on Saturdays and four on Sundays. Sundays are listed separately in law, so 14 is not the total of all days off.

Do I definitely not need leave for 24 December?

Under the standard five-day schedule assumed here, it is a public holiday and uses no annual leave. Legally permitted types of work may operate a different schedule.

How can one leave day give four days off?

For example, book 28 May to rest on 27–30 May, or book 12 November for 11–14 November. Both options require agreement on the leave day.

When will the days for 1 May and 25 December be taken?

The date is assigned within the applicable reference period and employer's schedule. There is no single Friday for all Poland; leave unconfirmed days out of advance calculations.

Is Good Friday on 26 March a holiday for everyone?

No. It is a working day in the baseline model. Our break on 26–29 March requires one day of annual leave on 26 March.

Do four January leave days really produce ten days off?

Yes: leave on 4–5 and 7–8 January joins the break on 1–10 January. Do not add the shorter combinations without removing the repeated 6 January.

Does the 14-day rule require spending 14 leave days?

No. It concerns uninterrupted calendar rest, including adjacent weekends and holidays. Our annual plans contain a sixteen-day break.

Can I assume 31 December 2027 or 3 January 2028 will be free?

No. The fact that 1 January 2028 is a Saturday does not assign a particular compensatory date. Our Christmas calculations do not assume unconfirmed days off.

Does zlecenie automatically provide 20 or 26 days too?

No. Those basic entitlements belong to employment relationships. A civil-law contract requires its own check of break and payment terms.

Does the 20-day plan create 43 new days off?

No. It contains 43 calendar days within five selected breaks, including existing weekends and holidays. This is neither all your rest during the year nor extra days beyond the ordinary calendar.

Verification date and your next step

The legal rules and calendar calculations were checked on 23.10.2026. The basis is the current Public Holidays Act, the latest consolidated Labour Code and official Labour Inspectorate explanations. Easter and related movable dates were calculated separately; the remaining dates and the transition into 2028 were calendar-checked.

Save the intervals that suit you, confirm your allowance and company schedule, then submit a request. If the law or your roster changes before the break, recalculate your chosen option. The tables should help make time off happen, rather than replace actual working conditions with an attractive number.
