Buy a starter and register a number – different steps

Polish SIM card must be registered before use. The purchased package may remain inactive until the operator verifies the data. The UKE’s guidelines provide for the name and surname, PESEL or the details of the identity document; in the absence of PESEL, a passport or residence card can be used.

If PESEL is not yet, the practical way - the official salon of the operator with a passport and starter. Tell them you want an offer on the card, and ask them to register the number on you. Do not agree to a long subscription only because the consultant called it "SIM activation".

What to bring and clarify on the spot

  • Passport or other identity document accepted by the operator.
  • The SIM packaging with the required number and card ID.
  • The phone where you plan to use the number.
  • The price of the selected package and the method of its first activation.
  • Number and package validity, extension and top-up rule.

Check owner details

Ask to verify the name and document number before completion. Keep the registration confirmation, check and package with PUK. If the number is registered on an intermediary or acquaintance, subsequent SIM recovery and portability may become a problem. This is especially important for the number that will receive bank and state codes.

When registering online, follow the current official method of a particular operator: not all methods are suitable for a person without a Polish document or bank identification. Do not send a passport photo to a random "activator" from an advertisement. The official lounge allows you to verify the identity without passing it to an unknown recipient.

After activation, do three checks

Make sure that outgoing calls, SMS, and mobile internet are available without Wi-Fi. Check the balance and the name of the active package in the application or the service provided by the operator. Specify whether the necessary calls abroad are included: they are not equal to domestic Polish calls.

If the Internet does not work, first check the activation and setup of the access point according to the operator's instructions, and do not buy the second package blindly. If you have two SIM cards, select the one you want to use for data transfer. In the application, disable unnecessary additional subscriptions or limitations on their connection agree with the operator.

What to save for the future

Write down the number, owner details, PUK and official support contact. Keep your PUK separate from your phone and do not share your SMS codes. If you lose your device, contact the operator in time to lock/restore it: turning off your phone does not terminate access to the number.

Prices and conditions of packages vary and differ from operators, so there is no universal cost here. Compare the total for the required period, the size of the internet and the consequences of non-replenishment. The selected package should solve your task, and not correspond to an outdated promotion in the ad.
