Electronic prescriptions in Poland: get the code and collect your medicine

The Polish e-prescription is stored in the electronic system. In the pharmacy you can call the four-digit code and PESEL patient or show the provided QR-code. In the mojeIKP application, the QR code display allows the pharmacist to get a prescription without dictating PESEL. You can ask your health care provider for a printout.

If you buy medicines for a loved one, specify whose data is needed: the prescription is issued to the patient, not the buyer. Do not post the code together with PESEL in the public chat. For a person without PESEL, discuss with the medical institution the identifier and the method of issuing the prescription in advance, and do not invent a number of an acquaintance.

Log in to IKP and in the section of your account, enter your phone number and email, select notifications. If there is no SMS, check the recipe inside the account, contact details and information printout. The absence of a report does not prove that the doctor did not prescribe anything.

If the prescription is not found, contact the issuing institution, stating the date of admission. Don’t go to several doctors for duplicate prescriptions before you’ve figured out the technical reason. Also check that you are not viewing your account instead of a child or another patient's account.

The usual period is 30 days; for antibiotics it is seven days, while some medicines and special prescription types have different periods. A prescription for a year requires appropriate designation by the doctor; the first purchase should be made before the expiry of 30 days, otherwise the quantity to be issued may decrease. See the start date, if specified, and the duration of the specific prescription.

Do not consider all preparations from one visit the same in term. Before the weekend, open each prescription and check the prescribed medication, dosage and date. If the deadline has already passed, the pharmacist cannot simply extend it on request: contact with the healthcare worker is needed.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about taking, cancelling or combining medications. A similar trade name does not guarantee the same dose or active substance. If the packaging differs from the usual foreign one, ask to show the active substance and the instruction.

Before you pay, make sure the pharmacist found your prescription and not an old record. After the purchase, save the information about the drug and the amount; for long-term treatment, this allows you to monitor the balance and schedule the next appointment on time. The cost of the medicine depends on the preparation and the right to reimbursement, so there is no general price of e-prescription.
